Wynyard Harvest Festival
Wynyard Harvest Festival and Haunted Forest Run
The 2016 Harvest Festival and Haunted Forest Run took place on October 29th. The afternoon included games and contests for kids at the Wynyard Civic Centre. In the evening, the event moved out to the Wynyard & District Regional Park for the Haunted Forest Run. The weather was fantastic and The Harvest Festival and Haunted Forest run brought in 250 lbs of food and $400 for the local food bank.
The indoor portion of the day is awesome for families with little ones. The Wynyard Kinettes and community volunteers helped out this year running lots of games and activities such as ghost bowling, pumpkin decorating, bingo and a colouring contest. The Haunted Forest run brought a large number of people out to the Wynyard and District Regional Park. The kids enjoyed the trick-or-treating along the 0.5km trail and were able to warm-up with a hot chocolate and chilli on a bun provided by the Wynyard Co-op after they were finished. Thanks to the scary volunteers and the Wynyard Fire Fighters, the after-dark adult haunted walk was a big hit.
Without all of our amazing volunteers this event couldn’t have happened. The Wynyard Recreation Department will be looking for even more volunteers next year, especially as scary creatures in the Haunted Forest!
