Swim For Life
How it started
Danielle Huberdeau, a fourth year University of Regina student, lost here Aunty in December 2010 to brain cancer at the young age of 45. With all the fundraising done to help people with cancer her aunty was able to live longer than they gave her. Danielle’s aunty was the third member of her family to pass away from brain cancer. With her aunty as her inspiration, Danielle wanted to do something that could help out other families dealing with similar situations so she decided to host a Relay For Life type of event at the swimming pool.
How it works
Swim For Life is based on Relay For Life. Teams of five or more people sign up and receive pledge forms. The teams then go out and fundraise until the Swim For Life event takes places (usually in July). Last yea,r with the help of corporate sponsors and donations from truly generous people, Swim For Life was able to raise over $20,000 eclipsing the $12, 252.00 raised in 2011. Danielle’s goal of the fundraiser was to raise $500.00 so you can only imagine how incredibly happy and proud she was of all those who participated and donated. All of the money raised goes to the Canadian Cancer Society to help with research that will hopefully one day help find a cure.
