BRIEF HISTORY

• First settled in 1905 by a group of Icelanders, joined by other settlers of Ukrainian, British and Polish origin.
• Named after the English family of a C.P.R. official’s wife.
• In 1908 became a village and in 1911 a town.
• Major flyway for waterfowl.

• East Central Saskatchewan along #16 Yellowhead highway, 185 km. north of Regina; 192 km. east of Saskatoon; 147 km. west of Yorkton.
• Just south of two inland salt water lakes – the Quill Lakes.
• Elevation 1828.5 feet.
• Divisional point on a major trans-provincial C.P.R. line.
• Trading area population estimated at 15,000 within a radius of approximately 50 miles.
