The Chiropractic and Massage Therapy Clinic is located in the Vogue Theatre Building. The Chiropractors are in the office on Mondays 9:00 am to 5:30 pm and Wednesday 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. At present the Centre has 10 stations of Keiser strength (all air compressed), 2 electronic treadmills, 2 recumbent cycles with heart rate, 2 hikers with heart rate, cable crossover and accessories, free weights (dumbbells), vertical knee raise, rebok steppers, counter balanced smith machine, benches, low back machine. We are an air-conditioned facility. We are open 7 days per week. The Centre has involved constructing a facility and recruiting a practice. The Community Health Services Association (Wynyard & District) had its first membership meeting in 1962. 990 people supplied capital totalling $32,900.00 to begin the building project. Almost 80% of the labour was voluntary. Since 1981 the Centre has housed salaried physicians in Family Practice Medicine, with emphasis on patient education and prevention. Support staff includes a nurse, who offers blood pressure and foot care clinics, does ear syringing, desensitization shots, and other services as directed by the doctors. Minor procedures can be performed in-house. We provide space to the Public Health nurse, an optometrist, and two Lioness programs, the “Buckle Up Baby” seat program and the “Eye Glass Collection” program. Rural Canada has experienced difficulties recruiting, and retaining doctors. Wynyard is no exception. In the Spring of 1997, the Province invited the Clinic to join others in planning a Primary Care Pilot Project. This may be a window of opportunity for the community.
