Big Quill produces potassium sulphate, used in wallboard production, oil drilling, specialty chemical applications, the micro-mini lawn turf & greens industry, and the agricultural sector as a fertilizer. Big Quill was established in 1991 when Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan employees bought the existing Big Quill plant. The company is a closely-held corporation with common and preferred shareholders. The plant is located on the south shore of Big Quill Lake, 6 miles west and 1 mile north of Wynyard. Big Quill opened its Research & Engineering Center in Kandahar during April 1996. The company began work on their Metiskow sodium sulphate plant, located 30 miles west of Provost, Alberta, in May 1996. Big Quill provides employment for numerous local people and is committed to gradual growth for the future.

7 miles south of Dafoe, 1 mile east, and 3/4 of a mile south. Dale Bolt and his two sons, Scott and Tod, are pedigreed seed growers in the Dafoe – Wynyard area. We grow varieties of red spring wheat, barley, canola, flax, peas, and durum. In addition, we are certified grain cleaners who not only clean our own grain but do custom work as well. The seed plant has an on-site weigh scale.

Many of us on the prairies LOVE the unique taste of the Saskatoon berry. However, as our population increases and wild stands swindle, our orchard offers an attractive alternative with easily picked, high quality, commercially produced berries. Bugle Ridge Berry Farm was established in 1995 and will operate as a Saskatoon berry U-Pick. As it takes a few years after the initial planting for the trees to bear fruit, we are optimistic we will have a small amount of berries in 1997, with 1998 as the target to possibly offer U-Pick to the public. We are located 7 miles south of Dafoe on Highway #6 (look for sign next fall). The orchard is operating as part of a family business, with Glen and Claire Bolt eager to share with you a “taste of the prairie best” in the very near future. Always call first as hours vary.
