Cooking – Challenge the Red Seal Journeyperson Cooking Program
Achieve your Journeyperson Cooking Qualification through this theory-only training with a SIAST Journeyperson Chef. Our classes are taught by an entertaining chef that has years of experience, and a passion for food and education. You must have at least 4½ years (8,100 hours) experience in the cooking industry to qualify.

Educational Assistant Lakeland Certificate Program
Explore various educational methods and approaches that effectively assist teachers and support children in the classroom. Hands-on experience is gained during supervised practicums. As an educational assistant, you will support and assist in establishing a healthy learning environment so that all children and youth may achieve their potential.

Does your eating establishment or local recreation facility have certified people? Successful completion of this training program fulfills the Saskatchewan regulations requiring staff in public eating establishments to be qualified in food service sanitation. This training is an asset to anyone who prepares and serves food.

Agricultural Training
Keep Them Healthy (Beef Production)
The maintenance of healthy, productive cattle is key to the success of a beef cattle enterprise. Facilitated by a veterinarian, you will be able to identify symptoms and a recommended course of treatment for common diseases of the breeding herd, replacement stock and calves. Vaccination techniques, as prescribed by the Quality Start Here Varified Beef Production Program, will be demonstrated. Time will be allotted to enable you to design a herd health program for your operation and receive feedback from peers and the facilitator.

Drumming Workshop- Wynyard
Learn the basic elements of social drumming. Using the drum circle format you will enjoy meeting other interesting people, exploring rhythm, and sharing common experiences. No previous experience is needed. More experienced drummers can take this class for a relaxed drumming experience. The class is based on the rhythms and cultural expressions of Africa, Latin America & the Middle East. All drums and percussion instruments are supplied.

Storysacks Workshop in Wynyard
It’s free! Lunch will be provided.
Date: Friday, February 5th from 9 am – 4 pm. Where: College classroom – Wynyard: 400A – Avenue D West (next to high school). Participants will learn how to bring books to life using props like puppets, felt boards, board games. etc. This workshop is for people that have children or work with them such as moms, dads, preschool teachers, daycare providers, educational assistants, librarians, babysitters, story time workers/volunteers, craft groups, etc. Contact 554-3767 for a registration form.

Study Success
Cycle 3 (6 weeks): Jan 4 – Feb 12/10 This course will cover self-study and skillbuilding techniques. Students will work on developing vocabulary, fluency and note-Personal Interest taking and self-reflection skills. Throughout the course, students will work on goal setting, self-evaluation and achieving results. General exam preparation for CanTest or TOEFL will be covered if sufficient student interest. Instructors will guide students through computer-assisted language training and introduce helpful websites for independent study.

Working World
Cycle 4 (6 weeks): Feb 22 – Apr 1/10 The primary goal of this course is to further develop students’ understanding of working in Canada. Topics covered will include career matching, resume building, job search and research techniques, and transference of foreign credentials to the Saskatchewan market. Students will gain information on how to find and retain work, as well as interview and negotiation skills.

Speaking Success
Cycle 5 (6 weeks): Apr 12 – May 21/10 Students will work on the areas of listening and speaking in formal and informal settings. Speaking will be supported by correct grammar usage, pronunciation and speaking in groups with confidence. Skills will include interrupting, giving suggestions and advice, directing and re-directing conversations, and making complaints or giving compliments effectively. Students will gain skills to be able to respond appropriately in difficult situations.

Community Activities
Cycle 6 (6 weeks): May 25 - June 30/10 Students will discuss, role-play, create, and conduct surveys and take field trips to orient them to community involvement and cultural activities. Students will be introduced to local networking opportunities, as well as develop a framework for further social involvement and citizenship.
